So, things got a little crazy there at the end of our time in Seattle. Something to do with packing up your whole life into a storage unit while simultaneously planning to go on a 5-month trip abroad...? Anyway, I'm going to give a short recap of the last two weeks in Seattle.
We did indeed finish our Goat Rocks backpacking trip. It was probably one of our favorite trips in the Cascades. The views were stunning pretty much all three days. Take a look--
Highlights included stunning relaxing time in Cispus Basin, meeting Pacific Crest Trail through hikers, and getting back into the moss of our home forest.
We started packing our house right after this trip...and then we set aside time for one last backpacking trip on the following weekend. This time we got to enjoy the company of our friends Jason, Kaitlyn, Corinne, and Edgar. We did a pretty manageable 4-mile trek up to Rachel Lake where we enjoyed swimming and card games, all in a beautiful Cascadian backdrop.
After this, we hit the packing and moving pretty hard (we did only have a week left). We did a lot of purging, which meant both Scott and I had to say goodbye to some things we loved. For me, the Cobalt and for Scott, his first pair of skis. :(
But less is more when you move into a 10x10 storage unit, and just like that our house was empty!
We had an awesome going away party, graciously hosted by Jason and Kaitlyn. Our going away party included a white elephant gift exchange in which all the gifts were stuff that Scott and I didn't want any more. Popular gifts included a kickball and several bottles of liquor. Lowlights included a Bears hat from a bush (Sorry, Sarah) and about 40 leftover sparklers from our wedding (although Phil was pretty excited about this). All in all, it was a great time spent with some very important people.
I should also give shout outs to the MANY friends who have helped us out in some way. You know who you are- if you've stored stuff, helped move stuff, taken us to the airport, or done any number of random favors we have asked, we truly appreciate it and are very blessed to have such great people around us. We will certainly miss you while we're gone.
And then we were off! One backpack, one carry-on, five months and three continents. First stop: Iceland!
