Our flight to Reykjavik was successful and we're getting ready to get some sleep after a very long day. The flight here is a red-eye... which we should have slept on... but it occurred to me... a big tourist attraction in Iceland is Northern Lights tours... we have a window seat... on a plane... at night...
We spent about half our time on the plan groggily watching movies and the other half getting excited about the faint aurora we caught intermittently out the window. I tried to take some pictures, but let's be honest, the Northern Lights through a plane window are not photography skills I have.

After an airport shuttle, we met our AirBnB host (who kindly picked us up from a bus stop) and got a few hours of sleep (we arrived at like 8AM Iceland time) before venturing into the city.
One of the first things we got was brats. We've learned that hotdogs are an Icelandic tradition. While they eat a lot of exotic things for special occasions (sheeps-head, dried fish)... very normal lunch fair is hot dogs with various unique sauces and onions (both raw and cooked).
We figured out the bus system and eventually made it into downtown. Reykjavik is a beautiful and distinctly Icelandic. We feel like the Norwegian influence is strong here... although I don't think they are technically Norwegian (we'll back to you on that after getting our museum fill).
We visited the tourist office and got signed up to do the Golden Circle tour tomorrow and then... headed for dinner (we're jet lagging badly). Dinner was lobster soup.
And that was pretty much our day. We didn't really get to many of the sights today, but that's how a red-eye day should be. We did absorb a lot about the culture here. The people have been very friendly and have a great sense of humor... excited to explore more tomorrow!
