Zanzibar - Jozani Forest and Paje Arrival

After 3 full days in Stone Town... we were ready to get out of the hustle and bustle of city.  On our way to the beach town (Paje) where we would stay for 4 days we stopped at Jozani forest to check-out their three main attractions:  forest, monkeys, and mangroves.

The forest was, well, a forest.  Of particular note, we saw some huge palms and ferns.


The monkeys, now those were pretty cool.  They're all Red Colobus monkeys which are down to a population of about 2,300 and only live in Zanzibar.  They actually don't have opposable thumbs which allows them to swing throughout the trees better.  We found a few families in the jungle and enjoyed watching them play and eat.


A short drive from the jungle area, we visited a mangrove swamp which relies on the oceans tide.  This was a highlight for me as it was just so... wild and unlike any other forest I've seen.


After our nature visit, we headed to Paje and the BEACH!  The next few days would have a lot of the below:
